Barcode Magician software works by making
changes to instruments within the MET/BASE database portion of MET/CAL Plus . For example, to automate a task such as checking an
instrument out to a customer, you instruct Barcode Magician software how to
represent a ¡°checked-out¡± instrument in the database. Then you apply this
instruction against a list of instruments. This single ¡°check-out¡± instruction
can be represented with a barcode label and affixed to a computer. An operator
would use a barcode reader to scan the label into Barcode Magician software,
along with a list of instruments to update each record.
Real-time updates
Every Barcode Magician software transaction updates
the MET/CAL Plus database in real time. You can
define criteria to prevent transactions from occurring for certain instruments,
such as instruments overdue for calibration or with a particular status code.
Such criteria checks can enhance the integrity of your lab management system by
defining orderly processes that must be completed before an instrument may have
a specified function performed on it. For example, you could prevent overdue
instrumentation from being loaned.
At the end of each transaction, the operator can be
presented with an option to print a report. You may design a wide variety of
reports: packing lists, calibration certificates, instrument ¡°followers¡± or
routing slips, transaction confirmations or lists of currently-checked-out
equipment. Reports specially designed for Barcode Magician software may take
only a few seconds to execute, while the same report running under MET/BASE may
take several minutes.
Easy-to-use interface
The Barcode Magician software user interface was
designed for easy operation with the novice user in mind. When combined with a
barcode reader, Barcode Magician software becomes an efficient, almost foolproof
data entry tool. Location updates can even be performed by staffers who are
unfamiliar with MET/CAL Plus , while still ensuring
that the database is updated consistently.
At the end of each transaction, the operator can be
presented with an option to print a user-designed report. Up to two reports may
be configured per station.
With Barcode Magician software, you can place a
terminal at a common point for instrument transactions such as a tool counter or
lab window. Using a barcode reader, you can allow customers to check in
equipment for calibration and check it out when it is finished. You can also set
up a terminal for location updates, such as equipment transfers between projects
or technicians. And you can easily add more traceability information to your
MET/CAL Plus system, without adding burden to your users.
Barcode Magician software allows users to process
more instrumentation faster, allows customers to make structured updates to the
database, and frees you from making manual status and location updates for these
instruments.
